Iritis
Iritis is the inflammation of the iris - the black
curtain that hangs between the anterior chamber in front and the
posterior chamber behind. The condition may be acute, subacute or
chronic. It may be a complication of a local eye disease or a general
body ailment like tuberculosis, syphilis, gonorrhea or gout. It may be
sympathetic. The eye loses its lustre. The markings on the iris become
indistinct. The colour of the iris may become greenishor bluish grey or
muddy black. It is painful, causes photophobia and lacrymation and
detective vision. The painis generally in the temple region and gets
worse at night. The disease may spread to almost all parts of the
eye,viz. conjunctiva, cornea, ciliary body, choroid vitreous, optic
nerve and retina.
Prevention and Precautions
It
requires treatment by an eye specialist in the early stages.
Complications can lead to blindness. Avoid strong light. Use of smoked
glasses is soothing.
Myopia
In myopia, the vision is
usually good upto a short distance. The eye ball is elongated and the
eye cannot focus on distant objects. By using concave lenses, the
distant objects become clear.
Prevention and Precautions
Walk bare foot on grass early in the morning. Take sun treatment with eyes closed.
